Volume 5, No. 1
Hello...
...and Happy Fall to everyone!
As I write this newsletter, our country stands poised for an historic election tomorrow. Fall has shown up with the brilliance of its watercolor-painted leaves, a slight nip in the morning air, and shorter days. This past weekend, we moved our clocks back one hour. Change is all around us.
We humans often have a hard time adjusting to change. Even if it’s something welcome, like a new job or promotion, a new relationship or a general change in circumstance for the better.
But change does happen. It doesn’t matter whether or not we go looking for it. It finds us.
This month’s article looks at how change shows up for people and ways to make that necessary part of life easier.
Also, continuing the Five Element Face Reading Corner, we’ll take a closer look at the “Earth” and “Metal” archetypal Five Element energies.
“Life is change. Growth is optional.”
All Good Wishes to You,

Changes Big and Small
I know someone who hates change. Simply uttering the word makes him uneasy. Worse still, suggest that he make a change. You can just imagine his mental heels planting themselves firmly in the ground. His experience of dealing with change ranges from being plain unpleasant to highly traumatic, depending on the context.
At the other extreme, I’ve known people who cannot stand for anything to remain the same for too long. They go looking for change with open arms, and bring it into their world gladly. I met someone once who craved changes of some kind or other almost daily. She hated routine, and went out of her way to avoid it. Being someone who appreciates a little daily routine myself, her reality was hard to appreciate at the time. Most of us lie somewhere between the two extremes illustrated. Both examples point out how unique everyone’s internal structures are.
In both cases, they are operating out of their safety patterning, the out-of-conscious programming that lets them know “how to know to feel safe in the world.” While the structure of that program served them very well when it was initially put into place, neither pattern allows much room for behavioral flexibility in their current lives. Imagine not having a choice about your behavior. That’s how these out-of-conscious programs affect us.
So how do you gain more choice in how you react to change (or anything, really)? By first knowing how you’d prefer to experience change when it happens, then by discovering what the root causes are that put the programming in place to begin with. And finally offering your system the new choice.
The NLP toolbox provides a respectful, elegant means to both find out what the original programs were, and then to gently update them so you have more choice in how you respond to changes hap-pening around you. Special attention is paid to how the belief structure was put in place to begin with, so updates to your system will actually “take” and you won’t have to think about being different. You just start ex-periencing the world differently - a change you can live with.
If there is some part of your life that isn’t working the way you would like it to, I would love to work with you to give you new options and choices. Call 206-417-4541 or email info@karapomeroynlp.com to make an appointment.
Five Element Face Reading Corner
Five Elements Abbreviated: Earth
Color: Yellow
Time of Year: Late Summer
Time of Day: 7am to 9am
Emotion: Sympathy or Worry
Organ: Spleen and stomach
Features: Mouth, lower cheeks
Overview: This is the energy of harvest time, and archetypal Mother energy. It is about settling down, taking in and giving nourishment. Earth energy is about community and supporting. Family and friends are hugely important to someone with a lot of this energy, and they naturally make great friends. People with a lot of Earth energy also need to make sure that they nurture and nourish them-selves, or they will end up depleting their energy reserves.
Five Elements Abbreviated: Metal
Color: White
Time of Year: Autumn
Time of Day: 3am to 7am
Emotion: Grief
Organ: Lungs and large intestine
Features: Nose, cheeks
Overview: Archetypally, Metal is Father energy. People with a lot of this energy have a very real need for things to have meaning and be authentic. The energy of Metal is about refinement and discern-ment - letting go of what doesn’t work or no longer serves and aspiring to something more “spiritual” or meaningful or beautiful. People with a lot of this energy very naturally require time alone due to their high level of sensitivity. They take a lot in from the environment, and being away from it all lets them recharge their batteries.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in receiving a face reading, I am still looking for people to work with for the Face Reading Practitioner Training. The sessions last 60 to 90 minutes and are $25. Call 206-417-4541 or email info@karapomeroynlp.com to set up an appointment.
